Roy Ackerman CBE

Roy Ackerman is without doubt, one of the most respected figures in the hospitality industry. His public and personal careers have made him an internationally recognised figure and, despite his many years in the business, he is still admired and endorsed by the younger generation of star chefs.

He has represented Britain over four continents as Chairman of the World Master of Culinary Arts and throughout Europe with the Café Crème Guide Annual Awards and Martell Guide to Europe.

Roy Ackerman was awarded an OBE in 1990 for his contribution to tourism and training whilst Chairman of the Restaurant Association of Great Britain . Subsequently he served an additional 5 years as President of the Restaurant Association of Great Britain and 10 years as the Chairman of the Hotel and Catering Training Board.  During his time as Chairman he led the privatisation procedure from public to private body.  He remains involved as Chairman of the Honorary Members of the Academy of Culinary Arts and assists the Academy of Food and Wine Service with conferences and training initiatives.

In recent years he has helped or backed, amongst others, leading chefs, Giorgio Locatelli, Brian Turner, Antony Worrall Thompson, Theo Randall and Maitre d' Elena Salvoni with whom he set up a restaurant under her name.  In 2003, as a tribute to founding the Henley Festival of Music and the Arts, he was made Honorary President to celebrate its 21 st year.

Roy was awarded a CBE in 2000 for services to Gastronomy.

The Henley Food Festival is honoured to have Roy as patron, a man of food, but also with a long history and association with Henley on Thames . .

Antony Worrall Thompson

It is impossible to compile a potted biography of Antony Worrall Thompson without missing some vital information. His career has contained so many highs, diversities and noteworthy events that this brief introduction does him no justice.

Many see Antony as a TV cook and broadcaster, but that dismisses the hugely successful restaurant career, that first launched Antony to media attention and TV prominence. There are TV chefs, and chefs who happen to be good on TV. Antony fits into the latter description, and as a long time resident of Henley, there could be no finer patron.

Mike Robinson

Mike Robinson is a hugely successful chef who balances TV and promotional work, with a thriving country pub. The Pot Kiln at Frilsham, near Yattendon in Berkshire has quickly become one of the foremost spots for rural dining. Mike Robinson specialises in game and wild food cookery, and there cannot be quainter setting than The Pot Kiln to sample the fruits of the land - much of it procured personally by Mike. Along with the pub, Mike also has a game and wild food cookery school..

Mike is a regular on TV cookery shows and indeed his own series; his film star looks and engaging personality make him a natural for the role. However, Mike is very much a man of food, and is still found behind the stove leading his team.

Mike has been a tireless supporter of The Le Cordon Bleu Henley Food Festival and we are delighted to have him as one of our Patrons.

Giancarlo Caldesi

Has very generously accepted the offer to become The Le Cordon Bleu Henley Food Festivals' latest Patron.

Giancarlo has had an extraordinary career that has included many TV appearances and a recent book - Return To Tuscany.

Perhaps first known for his Tuscan restaurant 'Caldesi' - a neighbourhood restaurant in Marylebone Lane, Giancarlo went on to further prominence with his own cookery school, also in Marylebone. His latest restaurant venture brings him to our patch - well almost! Caldesi in Campagna opened in Bray alongside the long established Waterside Inn and Fat Duck. However, Caldesi has received rave reviews and has quickly become one of the local must visit restaurants.

We are delighted to have Giancarlo on board, and his warmth, charm and Italian flair will add to the richness of HFF 2009.
