Profile

After arriving in the UK from Ghana at the age of eleven, Nana had one goal on his mind - to become a chef. "Nana" meaning King is a fitting name as he is linked to Ghana's Eastern royal family. In his early years as a five year old he cooked in family farms for friends and relatives who noticed he had a talent that should not be wasted. With this long-term ambition in life he headed to the UK to full fill his dream.

Completing his studies at Westminster College and working at the then prestigious Ménage A Trios, Nana was then offered a position at The Savoy. Here he worked under the watchful eye of Anton Edelmann, working his way up to become Anton's second in command and now classically trained. During his eight year stay at The Savoy, Nana was involved in writing three books, cooking demonstrations both home and off shore and did various TV work.

Nana was also one of few winners of the Acorn Award.

After working as head chef at Cliveden House Nana returned back to London to become executive head chef at Brasserie St Quinton on London's Brompton After running and reopening the kitchen and restaurant for over three years at St Quinton, Nana has now moved to rural Berkshire as the head chef of The Crown at Playhatch where he has overseen numerous projects in the last three years which have included the revamp of the front of house and changing the extensive menu on a monthly basis.

The Crown Inn

A charming 16th century country inn with an excellent restaurant and luxurious modern accommodation.

Taken over by Peter Malcolm in 1996 The Crown has become known for it's excellent food and friendly service. Sourcing fresh produce wherever possible and since the arrival of Nana in 2005 the crown is fast becoming a place which can accommodate a variety of tastes and moods.

With three distinctive sections ranging from the beautifully restored 18th Century barn with it's stripped oak beams and high ceiling to the elegance of the new conservatory. If it's privacy of a business lunch then the newly refurbished taproom is ideal for any meeting.

The Crown Inn will soon be celebrating the 1st anniversary of the four star accommodation. The high specification rooms are already a regular second home to many corporate clients and weekend break guests.
